12 Do's

As a part of the 9th Do, the Hurlstone Environment Committee celebrated the countless recycling of mobile phones, old and new, throughout the year with the You Can Campaign. We are enthusiastic about the challenge and plan to recycle up to Christmas and next year.

Meticulously made through manual sandpapering and sawing of scrap wood to be thrown out, are these dominoes, dipped in red and green ink to celebrate Christmas, acting to create lasting experiences and joy. They act well as a decoration (if they stand!) the night before Christmas and as a tool to bring people together. We tried our best to make a standing domino track, but fun is always the most important element! The jar of sawdust, not even half full, shows the little work that was done to produce these items. It conveys our message that only a pinch of hard work is required to create a greener Christmas for everyone.

Friday 5 October is the pawfect time to show your love for all creatures great and small.
The Environment Committee fundraised by selling this year's Happy Tails Day range in our school and community. All the money that was raised from Happy Tails Day will help the RSPCA care for animal.

Our stall

Our Country Fair Stall ran pretty sweetly and we made a profit of $350. Our stall had three stands, game, food and awareness booth. Cookies, cupcakes, jelly and many other "sweet" products were sold on the day. The executive body came up with a green theme to make this stall more appealing and eye capturing. The game section was a huge attraction. We had a ping pong game and slime game and everyone really liked the prizes. At the awareness booth, students handed out pamphlets, and things such as bookmarks and tattoos, that helped raise awareness of the environment. There were pamphlets about recycling and environment concerns. The Executive body would like to thank students who helped out and volunteered and also, those who came by and promoted our stall. It was a great success!

On the 6th to the 10th of August, Amy, David, Jason and I went on the Yen Eco-Leadership Camp to Wooglemia. There were around 40 students including us, from different schools near the Campbelltown region. It was a great experience that allowed us to develop leadership skills. We are now Yen Ambassadors wishing to share our knowledge about the environment to everyone. Together, let's save the environment and TAKE ACTION!

The New Team

2013 President and Vice President

The Hurlstone Environment Committee established in 2007 is one of a number of organisations that operate at Hurlstone Agricultural High School. The Environment Committee is a student-organised group, aiming to raise awareness on sustaining the environment throughout the school and the community. The new executive body has been planning on new projects that will get students more actively involved.The committee also have general meetings every week to discuss issues of interest for the committee. In these meetings the executive body advises the committee on issues they want to be addressed. They meet every week to discuss the Environment Committee's goals and direction for the future.

The Environment Committee's executive body consists of a President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Publicity Officer, Green-leaders, Water Manager, and Recycling Manager.
